Movies like Godzilla by Legendary Pictures and King Kong by Universal Pictures have always been among our fondest childhood memories. This year, these two production companies made a significant decision to collaborate and present Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as an addition to the amazing Godzilla vs. Kong movie released in 2021.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is an action/sci-fi movie featuring actors such as Alex Ferns, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, Kaylee Hottle, and Rebecca Hall. Hall, Henry, and Hottle all reprise their roles from the previous film Godzilla vs. Kong. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on March 25, 2024, and was subsequently released in the United States on March 29. It was able to gross approximately $558.5 million worldwide, surpassing its $135 million budget. Due to this financial success, it even scored the second-highest-grossing film of 2024 and the highest-grossing Godzilla film of all time.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire follows the protagonists almighty Godzilla and the fearless Kong in a hidden deep within an abscess of the planet called Hollow Earth. The two face a colossal threat by other titans, putting not only their existence but also the survival of the human race at stake. Building upon the previous movies, which left off with the discovery of the Hollow Earth, this installment aims to provide viewers with a deeper understanding of its mysteries as our two titans embark on a journey to uncover its secrets and confront their adversaries.
The film’s visuals are very impressive. In addition to utilizing cutting-edge CGI techniques, principal photography took place in the Gold Coast, Queensland. To authentically capture the essence of various locations, the crew opted to shoot many of the scenes on location.
“The fighting scenes in the movie are spectacular! It looks so real! I felt the pain that Kong faced after his arm got frozen even though I am just watching” said senior Shuhao Chen.
“We had a big sequence set in Rome, which opens the movie when Godzilla is facing a monster called Charybdis, which is a giant spider-lobster creature. We also spent a lot of time looking at the way places like Rome are actually photographed and how you show off the architecture in its best light. There is a lot of plate photography in that sequence, live-action photography from the location, but quite a bit of it is created on the computer. You want to capture the character of what you see in the live-action but do it in a creative and stylistic fashion. So that was pretty important,” Paul Franklin, the Visual effects Supervisor of the film, said to VFX Voice.
“The effort and technology that was put into this film was extraordinary, especially the part where Godzilla is in Egypt and Rome. I thought he was actually there.” said senior Damanpreet Kuar.
Overall, there has been a positive review (95% liked this movie) of the movie according to Google Feedback. So, buckle up and grab your popcorn to enjoy this new movie about titans underneath the earth.
