All The Ways To Celebrate Galentine’s Day

“Galentine’s Day” originated from the sitcom Parks and Recreation. In the show, the character Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, celebrates Galentine’s Day on February 13th, and she dedicates this day to celebrating friendship with her female friends. The idea caught on in popular culture, and now many people celebrate Galentine’s Day as a way to appreciate their friendships, especially with other women. It emphasizes the importance of friendship, highlighting the value of companionship, support, and camaraderie in our lives. Galentine’s Day serves as a reminder to cherish and celebrate our meaningful connections with friends.

Friendships are very beneficial for one’s health. They reduce stress, boost self-confidence, and increase the sense of belonging and happiness. As a way to maintain friendships and celebrate Galentine’s Day, here are some activities to do with friends:

Baking

Gather friends for a session of baking delicious treats together. Bake cookies in heart shapes using a cookie cutter, and decorate them with pink and red frosting, sprinkles, and edible glitter. As a thoughtful gesture, provide friends with containers or bags so they can take home some of the treats they’ve baked. This allows everyone to enjoy the fruits of their labor and extend the joy of the baking party even after the event.

“I planned on celebrating Galentine’s Day by baking with my friends,” explained junior Megan Wong. “We planned to bake giant heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies.”

Movie Marathon

Plan a movie marathon full of romcoms or feel-good films and TV shows, such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, 10 Things I Hate About You, and La La Land. Set up a cozy viewing area with blankets and pillows, pop some popcorn, and maybe even break out some themed snacks like heart-shaped cookies or chocolate-covered strawberries. Lastly, make sure to enjoy a relaxing movie night with friends.

“I’m going to celebrate Galentine’s Day by watching movies with my friends and family; it’s very simple to do,” said freshman Mary Elizabeth Namatay Ross. “I’ve got the snacks ready and a list of movies lined up. We get to spend quality time together instead of just focusing on romantic relationships.”

Spa Day

Pamper each other with face masks, manicures, pedicures, and making homemade sugar scrubs. Relax with soothing music and aromatic candles. Don’t forget the cucumber slices for the full experience! Consider adding some DIY activities like making bath bombs or body scrubs together.

Body scrubs can be made using sugar and coconut or olive oil, with a few drops of essential oil for fragrance. Meanwhile, bath bombs can be made with baking soda, citric acid (which can be replaced with lemons), cornstarch, sea salt, any vegetable oil, essential oil, food or soap coloring, and a bit of water. Afterward, place the mix in some molds and let it freeze for about 30 minutes.

For an extra touch, prepare some healthy snacks and refreshing drinks to enjoy while indulging in self-care.

Making Flower Bouquets

Select a variety of flowers in different colors, shapes, and sizes. Some popular options are roses, daisies, tulips, and carnations. Remember to also include filler flowers like baby’s breath or greenery such as ferns or eucalyptus for texture and depth. Secure the flowers with flower tape, and add bows and a personalized note for a special touch.

In essence, Galentine’s Day is a beautiful celebration of friendship and female solidarity. It’s a day filled with laughter, love, and appreciation for the amazing friends in our lives. Happy Galentine’s Day to all the wonderful friends who make life brighter!
