The Festive Nature of Xmas Lights

The Festive Nature of Xmas Lights

At the end of every year, as you pass by many houses, you will see a select few with Christmas lights placed all over. These Christmas lights are a sight to behold, because it shows how much the family wants to express their festive spirit. There could be countless different displays such as multiple different Christmas lights, inflatable body figures, or Christmas trees.

Christmas lights started around the early 20th century, meaning that over time, there has been more room to add extra items. They first started off with candle lights being placed on top of trees to represent Jesus Christ as “The Light of the World.” However, this was a fire hazard, as trees and candles are an imminent wildfire combo. Close after electrical lights were created, colored lights were also then created.

“I like looking at the beautiful Christmas lights because they’re very pretty and magical. Every year seeing the lights reminds you that Christmas is on its way,” said freshman Emily Yim.

Soon after electrical lights were hung onto trees, other people decided to hang these Christmas-tree-specific lights on other structures such as parks, buildings, and even city halls. The festive cheer had spread even more. This allowed everyone in the community to be able to experience and witness the beauty of these lights.

Soon after this came other items that are associated with Christmas, such as ornaments, wreaths, stockings, or the Christmas tree star. These other items also contribute to an overall amazing festive experience. Christmas lights are put up all around the world. Christmas is also generally a Christian holiday, but these activities are not limited to them as others can put up Christmas lights and decorations too. Many people have decorated their entire house and transformed parts of their home despite believing in another faith.

There could also be games and prizes that are involved with Christmas decorations. A theme could be who could make the best Christmas tree or other games involved with it. This sets a goal for all the contenders to not only make something that will win them a prize, but to be able to place it in front of their house so others can view their hard work.

“Looking at Christmas lights has always helped me connect with people I care about. From watching Christmas lights with my friends to families it’s always helped me bond,” said sophomore Angelique Dizon.

Christmas lights are also very joyful to go sight-seeing with a friend, as you can definitely see different and very amazing designs of lights all around. Many people around the world celebrate their festive cheer with their own creations, and it’s always a sight to see what the people around us can create.
