In order to get into the holiday spirit and experience some enthusiasm before the long-awaited and dreaded finals, Arcadia High School’s (AHS) ASB prepared a week full of festive themes and lunch activities for students to enjoy one last time this semester.
Midnight Monday:
Slept in too late this morning? Fortunately for Monday’s theme, students came to class dressed in their coziest pajamas, sweatshirts, and sweatpants. In true slumber party fashion, at lunch, there were friendship-bracelet making stations by the Rally Court.
“A lot of people already wear comfortable clothes everyday, but it was cool seeing more people participate in spirit week on Monday since it was a more convenient theme,” senior Sheryl Tan recalled.
Type Tuesday:
Whether you’re into nerds, athletes, or red flags, everyone has a type. On Tuesday, students showed up to class as their ideal type, wearing clothes a bit different from their usual outfits.
“I thought the theme was pretty creative and there were a lot of different and interesting outfits I saw,” freshman Calista Zhang remarked.
Wish Upon a Star Wednesday:
Every year, arguably one of the most anticipated holiday events includes Disneyland Christmas. Even though you can’t be at Disneyland right now, on Wednesday, students dressed in their favorite Disney merchandise or as Disney characters. At lunch, there was a wishing tree along with a station for making Rice-Krispie wands.
“I thought it was pretty fun dressing up in Disney gear,” junior Suzanne Khuon noted. “Seeing everyone putting effort into their outfits was really nice.”
Throwback Thursday:
Side parts, black leggings, scrunchies, high-waisted jeans; just these details alone may possibly reflect your earlier school years. On Thursday, students scavenged their old shirts, sweaters, or uniforms from the back of your closet and relived your elementary or middle school days by dressing up like yourself back then.
“I noticed most people just wore clothes from their middle school like their P.E. uniforms, but I really liked how some people actually wore outfits they wore in middle school. I thought it was super funny,” freshman Estella Lim exclaimed.
Fa-La-La-La Friday:
It’s never too early to start getting ready for the holidays, and Friday was a perfect chance to get going; students brought Santa hats, ugly sweaters, and holiday accessories, and channeled their yuletide cheer! At lunch, there was a special holiday performance by Pep Squad, followed by Santa and elves photo booths with Christmas hair clips and star crowns.
“I really liked seeing everybody’s festive outfits and what they came up with. Even when they didn’t own festive clothes, I thought it was cool how some people wore Christmas headbands and scrunchies too,” senior Delaney Avise beamed.
All in all, this year’s Holiday Spirit Week was a blast filled with so many creative costumes and happy smiles. Thank you all for participating!
