Summer Playlist
May 25, 2017
Whether it’s strolling down the Santa Monica Pier or driving down Mulholland Drive, the summer months are a collection of snapshots that are best remembered when coupled with a playlist. From sleek RnB to true-to-self pop tracks, there’s something mentioned for fans of every genre.
Cherish-EXO-CBX
Starting with a soft keyboard-esque twinkle, Cherish quickly moves into groovy territory with subtle snares, strong bass, and climactic brass complimenting powerful vocals that are equal parts sweet and funky.
Take you Home-Baekhyun
Take you Home guides you through the sweltering heat of the sun as a soft pop ballad with a kick. The otherwise soft track intertwines smoothly with Baekhyun’s vocals–lending to it a balance of undeniable charm in the lows of the chorus and a unique lilt into soft falsetto. The song takes a sharp turn from sweet and soft into a convincing mid-tempo sentiment about the budding dreams of a love-to-be.
Rose Colored Boy-Paramore
It’s difficult to to describe this disconnected, funky new track. Although jarring at first with its 80’s reminiscent jingle, Rose Colored Boy plays upon iconic studies of pop with a new flair, with sharp guitar and drums weaving something interesting into every beat. The synthesized sound creates a game-like, disjointed fluorescence that’s all too fitting for summer.
Thunder-Imagine Dragons
Thunder captivates and runs as dramatically as thunder itself, demanding attention with an offbeat percussion that steps perfectly to the gritty vocals overlapping catchy synthesized snippets.
LA Devotee-Panic! at the Disco
Brendon Urie’s incredible vocal range brings La Devotee one step above being a typical alternative-pop track. The sharp snare sits neatly underneath the smooth buzz of the rest of the track, creating an addictive, almost dangerous anthem to LA’s residential enthusiasts.
Fine-Taeyeon
Yet another track perfect for fun in the heat, Taeyeon rolls back from prominent beats with a laid back, folk-inspired pop song. Soft guitar accompanies sweet vocals that billow and soar to sharp notes in the swell of the chorus, making for a pleasant diversion from the rest of the song’s almost soothing uniformity.
Indian Summer-Jai Wolf
Indian Summer is a sun-infused track with fluttering vocal snippets, all encapsulated in a catchy 80’s pop mood.
