Junioritis

Junioritis

Senioritis and junioritis. Have you heard of these conditions before?

Senioritis, the more commonly known term of the two, was coined to describe any graduating senior who experienced a lack of motivation towards the end of their final year of high school.

However, what about junioritis? Trust me, it is a real condition that has no known cure. I mean, otherwise, all high school juniors would have taken the cure by now.

Junioritis: a condition that affects high school juniors. Symptoms include migraines caused by an overabundance of caffeine, abrupt mood swings, and lack of motivation in schoolwork.

Junior year hits recently-fledged sophomores immediately with a never-ending workload, a plethora of commitments and responsibilities, a fully bookmarked and color-coded agenda, and the stress of keeping up with trends and relationships.

Juniors at Arcadia High School (AHS) definitely feel the pressure and expectations, especially since AP season is right around the corner.

“With pressure to take difficult AP classes in the competitive environment that AHS fosters, I have struggled to juggle between my AP classes, band commitments, and swim meets,” stated junior Darren Lam.

After coming back from distance learning, it has been a rough start adjusting back to in-person classes and understanding the curriculum, especially the AP classes. However, thankfully, junior year has made a positive impact in building new connections and fun class/school events to attend to,” claimed junior Benjamin Oh.

Junior Keanna Luu added, “As a part of the Girls Varsity Basketball team, I know first-hand what it is like to juggle a sport and academics. Sometimes I feel like I am incapable of handling the stress from both honors and AP classes, as well as basketball, but I just have to endure it because I don’t want to give up my sport nor settle for less in school.”

Junior William Pan remarked, “Junior year has heavily impacted my schedule of fading through lapses of consciousness. The amount of sleep I get each night keeps decreasing throughout the year.”

With the end of the school year dawning upon juniors, juniors still have a long list of “to-do’s” on their minds. From internships, part-time jobs, college applications, senior portraits, graduation, and finishing up school, juniors still have a long way to go before they can truly shed their high school graduation cap and gown.

Don’t worry juniors; After you defeat junior year and senior year, you will be able to turn a new chapter in your life and write a new, thrilling story for yourself!
