Summer Plans
April 18, 2017
School is great and everything, but what most students look forward to is summer break, the longest break we AHS students have. Because/due to the length of summer break, spring and winter break seem to pass by too fast. As most students use spring and winter break to either just laze around at home or study, what can be done in such a long break such as summer break?
Of course we know about the awesome vacation of summer break, but what about the opportunities that are available? As many people probably know, many schools provide summer school classes that count as credits towards college. Arcadia Education Foundation (AEF) have summer school programs that are held in Arcadia every year. The classes count as actual credits for graduation for high school students and it’s a great way to get ahead or to make up classes for your high school years! The catalogs for AEF 2017 Summer School has already been passed out throughout our classes since March 13th, so if you’re interested and haven’t gotten yourself one, you better grab one quick before the early registration due date on April 12th ($30 registration fee waived). Remember, seats are limited!
If you’re looking for more of a wider range of summer classes, try college summer classes that are held by colleges like USC and UCLA. Spots are limited and it may be pricey but it will be an experience to remember! Taking classes like these gives students better ideas on what major they may be thinking of studying/pursuing in the future and also gives them experience living in a dorm with many other students. Although these programs may sound fun, note that these are college-level courses and provide a challenging college-level experience. If you are interested in these, you better apply fast because spots are limited and there are many other students applying, including international students.
Some plans about the upcoming summer break from our AHS students vary from person to person. There are people who like to spend their summer out on vacation like junior Katie Kong, who states that her “plans this summer is to visit [her] family in Canada”, or to study and take a step up in their high school years like sophomore Diana Rodriguez, who wants to “take summer school so [she] can get ahead on [her] credits.” As there are people who like to prepare for their next year of high school, there are also people who would like to cherish their last summer as a high school student. Junior Justin Lee wishes to “enjoy [his] summer before [he] needs to start worrying about [his] future; hanging out with friends.” Senior Sarah Chin realises that she will no longer be at high school with people she has known almost her whole life; however, she has great plans for this summer such as attending Anime Expo 2017 and traveling to different parts of Asia.
Although summer is our longest break, spending each and everyday worthwhile is what makes the break exciting and fun. Hope you Apaches enjoy the rest of this school year and have an awesome summer break!
