SMW’s Canned Food Drive
November 21, 2020
Do you have loads of cans sitting at your house and have no idea what to do with them? Have no fear, the annual canned food drive is here!
Usually the annual canned food drive is only school-wide, but due to the pandemic, the event will be a city-wide drive-through for all of the schools in AUSD. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will take place in the parking lot of Denny’s at 7 E. Huntington Drive.
Food items needed in the food drive include peanut butter, granola bars, and packaged pastas. Bottled water, beans, and canned soups are also desired. Personal protective equipment such as hand sanitizers, gloves, and masks are also wanted due to the pandemic. There should be no items with glass, no perishables, and no homemade foods being donated. Other than food and material donations, grocery store scrips, cash, and checks made out to the Foothill Unity Center are also accepted.
In order to donate, there are specific instructions to follow. First, place anything you want to donate in the trunk of your car. After that, enter Wheeler Avenue at Santa Anita and follow the instructions that a volunteer will give you. Once it gets to your turn, just open up the trunk and the volunteer will pick up the donations! A mask is required to be able to participate in the event due to the guidelines concerning the pandemic.
There are also many special offers to take advantage of on this day of giving. Cake Sisters is offering a special deal of four cupcakes for only $5. Denny’s is also offering 20% off during the event while other restaurants are also giving special deals. There are definitely some great deals to take advantage of on this day of giving.
Finally, there are special incentives to some lucky donors. The first 50 cars will receive a tote bag filled with goodies like a T-shirt and a facemask. 100 lucky attendees will also receive a gift from ReMax Premier Properties that will be full of special offers, as well as a box of K95 masks!
Overall, everybody will be able to benefit from this food drive. This is a community collaboration to provide for those in need and the need is greater more than ever due to the pandemic. Hopefully everybody will be able to attend!
