Quarantine Hobbies
September 16, 2020
Quarantine, a time where we are stuck in our homes and have to social distance. Before school started, people couldn’t do much in their homes, but they can develop new hobbies they didn’t even think of before. With that being said, let’s see what students had been doing during the summer quarantine!
“During quarantine, I developed a new hobby of pencil drawings. While in quarantine, I was very bored, and I found inspiration via the internet to do drawings, so as of right now, I’ve been doing a few sketches,” freshman Philip Leslie replied. Finding a new hobby can be difficult, but finding inspiration from all types of sources can help anyone find a new hobby.
“Being bored in quarantine made me find a new hobby that so far, I really enjoy. This hobby would be playing golf with my family, but even then I still play video games and watch movies like I regularly do,” freshman Lucas Fang said.
Lucas found a new hobby that he thoroughly enjoys, but even then he still participates in his other hobbies. So that means that finding a new hobby that you really enjoy doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the other hobbies you had before.
“Since quarantine has begun, I have developed many new unique hobbies. From gaming to volunteering, all my boredom has led to self-enrichment. In fact, I learned to build my own PC during this time and began working with the LA Food Cycle,” sophomore Jaimie Lee says.
This shows that even temporarily, like when building a PC, a hobby can still impact your life. Even when the project is over, there are still more hobbies you can have and develop such as volunteering.
“Before quarantine, I loved to draw. I wanted to animate my drawings, but I could never find the time to do so, but even since quarantine began, I have now developed a new hobby which is animating,” freshman Nelson Chiang stated.
Based on what Nelson said, quarantine seems to be impactful in people’s lives because people have the time to do a hobby that they enjoy, but never got the chance to before quarantine because of the limited amount of time.
Over quarantine, we have had many struggles with boredom, but by being inspired by all types of sources, having flexible time, and thinking long and hard, we were able to survive quarantine boredom by having new and exciting hobbies that we never thought we could be doing.
